Helping Hand: Local Clothing Store Raises Donations For Compass House

BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) – David Stanfield, manager of I’m Livin B clothing store, knows a thing or two about keeping the community up to date with the latest trends, but now he’s showing them how to help those who need it most. .

“Every chance that we have, if you’re able to do that, you’ve got to give back to those in need, that’s super important. “

He began collecting donations for Compass House, a shelter and resource center for homeless and fleeing youth, which went months without donations once the coronavirus hit.

“We weren’t allowed to receive donations for probably four months and it was really difficult because a lot of the kids who come to us just have clothes on their backs,” said Lisa Freeman, executive director of Compass House.

Freeman says they still need personal items like deodorant socks and linens, especially now that the holidays are approaching.

“New socks, bras, underwear, blankets, pillows, towels and housewares. Things like that are always essential for us.

Being a Buffalo kid himself, Stanfield says he remembers how important a helping hand can be for a kid who has nowhere to go.

“I was a troubled youth so it’s important for me to know that there is someone out there who helps people who are going through a lot and this is a charity that a lot of people may not be familiar with. be not so i think helping them and helping to raise awareness for their cause is super important.

Stanfield will be collecting supplies at the clothing store located at 2931 Delaware Ave in Kenmore until close of business on Wednesday, September 23, but donations are still accepted at Compass House at 370 Linwood Avenue Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. .
