Local clothing line embraces Hawaiian history through their designs

Honolulu (KHON2) – Kaulua’e Hawai’i dedicates its clothing designs to celebrating Hawai’i’s past and its ancestors.

Based on the island of Hawaii, what started out as a fun, impromptu design of men’s shorts has grown into a business that has become an island favorite.

“One day I was talking with my friends about creating a nice design for men’s boardshorts. We created almost 300 short films and intended to sell them only at Merrie Monarch. People reacted so well that I decided to get on with it and get into more clothes, ”says Kenneth Victor, founder of Kaulua’e Hawai’i.

Besides being a clothing designer, Victor is an award-winning kumu hula, which allows him to extend his love for Hawaiian culture from dance to creations.

Victor says, “Kaulua’e Hawaii, is a brand that encompasses generations of Hawaiian culture. Kaulua`e Hawai`i clothing expresses the charm, warmth and sincerity of the Hawaiian people.

Inspired by the history of Hawai’i, Kaulua’e Hawai’i’s most popular and recognizable design tells the story of the Hawaiian monarchy through the newspapers of its time.

“The intention of our NÅ«pepa collection was to inspire our lāhui to read old Hawaiian newspapers, drawn from over 30 Hawaiian newspaper titles, as early as 1834-1948,” says Victor.

Kaulua’e Hawai’i is available to buy online and on Instagram.
