Local clothing stores begin to reopen in Chico

CHICO, Calif .– Downtown Chico is starting to come to life as we progress through phase two of Governor Newsom’s plan to reopen.

Many clothing stores have resumed operations after being closed for almost two months.

Journalist Kristian Lopez spoke to the owners of For Elyse and 5th Street Clothing Company.

Both stores are stepping up security measures to keep their customers safe, and they tell Action News Now they’re excited to serve the community again.

At “Pour Elyse”, all employees wear masks, respect social distancing and constantly clean and disinfect.

“It feels good, we’re so excited to be back and people are happy that we’re open again,” said mother-daughter duo Amber and Elyse Kierig, owners of famous clothing store For Elyse.

They are fully stocked with inventory. If people don’t want to buy in store, you can also buy online at Forelyse.com

5th Street Clothing Company is also open again. Owner Carol Munson says they have seen a positive response from the community.

She says they make sure their clients are safe.

“It’s awesome. It’s very refreshing, it’s wonderful and guests are enjoying their stay here,” Munson said.

Local buyers say they are excited but are cautious when shopping.

Munson says they follow social distancing, provide hand sanitizer, and use UV lights to kill germs and bacteria.

“Certainly things have changed, I’m more people aware and everyone seems to be following the rules for the most part, so I’m confident,” said client Lisa Bruener.

If you are not comfortable shopping in person, both companies have websites where you can shop online.
