Local restaurants are struggling, Bakersfield Group aims to help

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — It’s called the Bakersfield Local Restaurant Group, and it’s helped dozens of restaurants across the city.

This is a group of six people, none of whom had experience in the food industry.

But their concern for local restaurants prompted them to create a space to help promote all restaurants to the community.

“The day we closed and nobody knew what was going on, we were lost, but all of a sudden this group appeared and it was the Bakersfield Restaurant Group and they were there to support restaurants,” said said Denise Bell, a Sorella employee. said Ristorante Italiano.

The group started just as an idea to help others, but it caught on quickly and quickly when no one knew what to do.

“Once they started this page it grew, I’m not kidding, 20,000 people were on this page and everyone was going to this source to find out what was going on,” Bell said.

Sorella Ristorante Italiano is an Italian restaurant and like many others has gone through tough times during the pandemic and they have turned to the restaurant group for help.

Another challenge for restaurants right now is inflation.

Kristin Visser is one of the restaurant group’s leaders and says the effects of inflation show up in rising prices and changing portion sizes.

“If we didn’t have them, I really, really mean it. So many restaurants in this town would have closed,” Bells said.

Visser says they plan to keep the band going even if things return to normal. She said the page has become a go-to place to promote menus and special events as well as customers to promote their favorite places to eat.
