Local Restaurants Offer Picnic Baskets to Benefit Buffalo Bayou | Food drink

In an effort to get people out on National Picnic Day this Friday, restaurants around Houston, including local restaurants, have teamed up with the Buffalo Bayou Partnership.

Restaurants have set up unique picnic baskets available for purchase for a picnic this weekend, and the proceeds from each basket will go to the Buffalo Bayou Partnership.

“Buffalo Bayou is literally the heart of Houston and is so important in the daily lives of Houstonians,” said Chef Bobby Matos of La Lucha, 1801 N. Shepherd Dr. “Helping the bayou succeed in the future empowers Houstonians to continue to have beautiful green space for recreation, exercise and events for years to come.

Buffalo Bayou Partnership is a non-profit organization dedicated to the revitalization of Buffalo Bayou from Shepherd Drive to the Port of Houston Turning Basin. Proceeds from National Picnic Day will support the ongoing efforts of the Buffalo Bayou Partnership to create and maintain the green spaces included in this area.

“(This) includes Buffalo Bayou Park, development of the bayou trail system, operation of an on-water clean-up program, and presentation of public art, volunteer activities and recreational opportunities.” that enrich the quality of life in Houston, ”said Leigh McBurnett, development manager at Buffalo Bayou Partnership.

Participating local restaurants are La Lucha as well as Common Bond, 449 W. 19th St., and Postino Wine Café, 642 Yale St.

Common Bond’s picnic basket features a trio of bruschetta with spring peas and mint, ricotta and radish, and eggplant and goat cheese; a plate of meats, fruits and cheeses, a choice of two sandwiches: ham and cheese on a baguette, tomato and burrata, smoked salmon on a croissant or chicken salad with tarragon on a croissant, fries on the side; and finally, a packet of snickerdoodle cookies, all wrapped in a tote bag. The picnic costs $ 50. For more information, visit https://www.commonbondcafe.com/store/product/Picnic-tote/.

La Lucha’s picnic service is tasty on the go. The pack includes eight pieces of fried chicken, a salad, Brussels sprouts, collard greens, four honey sambal and jam cookies and a bottle of Bisol Prosecco. When ordering, the restaurant will need at least 30 minutes to prepare the food, and it will be available for $ 59.95 all weekend.

“The choice was easy. What’s better for a picnic than a fried chicken? said Matos. “Fried chicken is excellent hot or cold and with the sides, bubbles and cookies you have a complete meal ready to go.”

Postino’s Picnic Package focuses on “snacks,” including appetizers like salad or meatballs, as well as his signature bruschetta board, for $ 35. For an additional $ 15, customers can add a bottle of wine from Postino’s Lucky Seven range. The picnic package will be available Friday all day and orders can be placed by phone or in person.
