Meijer Strengthens Local Restaurants By Placing Over 1,000 Orders For Team Member Appreciation Events

With 110,000 restaurants having closed their doors temporarily or permanently last year, the remaining local restaurants continue to face significant challenges as they attempt to recover. Meijer has chosen to continue their holiday meal program this year as part of their ongoing efforts to support local businesses and recognize team members.

“We know that many restaurants are still recovering from the challenges of 2020 which have continued this year,” said Meijer, President and CEO. Rick keyes noted. “We are delighted to support them with our meal orders while showing our appreciation for the members of our team who do so much.”

With nearly 300 Meijer locations hosting multiple holiday appreciation meals for their team members throughout the holiday season, the retailer plans to have a significant impact on local restaurants. He estimates that local businesses will host more than 1,000 holiday meal events on his footprint by the end of the year, serving more than 250,000 individual meals to his team members.

“We really appreciate big orders,” said Shannon foster, owner of Crave Café in Louisville, Ky., who served boxed sandwiches at a Louisville Meijer last week. “They came at a time last year when we really needed them and they continue to be useful even today because business is better.”

After having to close its doors for 2 months in 2020 due to the pandemic, Crave Café was first chosen to respond to Jeffersonville, Ind. Meijer last year as part of the retailer’s very first holiday meal program. Once the news spread to other stores in the area, the restaurant has become a local Meijer favorite, receiving several orders from the surrounding area this year, even outside of the holiday season.

“We are honored to be a part of this community and to support local restaurants like Crave Café through this program,” said Scarlett greenwood, store manager Louisville Meijer. “The holiday season can be particularly stressful for merchants, so it feels good to show our team members that we care and make their day a little easier. “
