Solent University is looking for partners to help develop the local film and media industry

SOLENT University is seeking partners to support a research project that will explore ways in which the region can help build and grow the local film and media industry.

The project is funded by the university’s Research, Innovation and Knowledge Exchange (RIKE) Awards and aims to establish an evidence base that will inform strategic conversations regarding industry expansion in the region. of Solent (south central) of the United Kingdom.

Project leader Dr Roy Hanney said: “This is an opportunity to start building the kind of creative industries networks that the region so badly needs.

“It will also contribute to an ongoing conversation about strategic opportunities for the sector and what we as a university can do to be a catalyst for change.”

The project was developed in close collaboration with key project partner, Creative Network South manager Charles Freeman.

Dr Hanney added: “Creative Network South is delighted that the University of the Solent is carrying out this research to explore what the creative community in the Solent feels is needed to ensure the continued growth of the sector.”

The project will also partner with Film Expo South (FES), an organization which provides brokerage services for the film industry and represents film bureaus in Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Dorset.

Gillian Tully, Project Partner Film Expo South, added: “The film industry around the Solent is poised to benefit from the huge investment in production resources that Disney, Netflix and others are pouring into the UK. United. We really have to be ready.”
