The must-have local multigenerational clothing keeps its title

Best Men’s Clothing Store
Mr. Dumas and sons

Mr. Dumas and Sons once again topped the list with the best men’s clothing store. A downtown retailer founded in 1917, M. Dumas has grown into an iconic men’s specialty clothing store. Initially, M. Dumas et fils was known as a uniform store for service trades. As such, the store was once the sole supplier of uniforms for naval officers stationed in Charleston. Mr. Dumas and Sons then became a full-time menswear arena in 1993 and now offers its customers one of the widest assortments of men’s specialty brands in the country. Navigating the pandemic and quarantine was incredibly difficult, even for a local, multi-generational business, owner Gary Flynn said.

“It’s something that has never happened before,” he said. city paper in a previous report. “We’ve been through the Great Depression, both world wars, stock market crashes – we’ve been open through it all. The only time we physically closed the store outside of holidays was when a hurricane hit us.

But like many other local Charleston staples, Mr. Dumas and Sons managed to survive once more and established themselves at the top of the Lowcountry menswear world.
