Wilmington’s Top 10 ranking in the National Foodie List includes several local restaurants

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) — The port city just added another award to its long list of accomplishments over the years.

Yelp recently made a list of the 10 most foodie destinations in small towns, in addition to a “Small towns, big flavors” article. This article included the metrics in which Yelp found the best foodie cities. These being: a population of 250,000 or less and criticism from outsiders.

Wilmington, which ranked number 7 on the list, finished behind two other North Carolina cities – Asheville and Kill Devil Hills, with Asheville taking the top spot on the list.

Love for seafood has put Wilmington at the top of the list, namely Bridge Tender and Cape Fear Seafood Company. The crab cakes and crab dip got dozens of great reviews and were listed as fan favorites in the article.

Both restaurants’ excitement centers around their dishes that made the list, and there’s a method behind their popular dip “it’s kinda unique. There’s that horseradish taste in there. It’s creamy, cheesy, with lots of crab meat in there. says Jackie Foust, co-owner of Cape Fear Seafood.

With pride comes the question “How many more restaurants will join?” to the great success of the Wilmington culinary scene. Wilmington Chamber of Commerce CEO Natalie English says it’s “difficult to get reservations at some of the best restaurants. And while that’s frustrating for the person trying to make the reservation, it’s very good news for the restaurateurs we have and those we know who are looking to expand or relocate here.

Dozens are lining up to set up their restaurants in Wilmington, English says. The port city has a booming foodie scene and people keep coming back.
